A LIVE DEBATE ON GLOBAL WARMING

BUILD ON THE TREMENDOUS MEDIA INTEREST IN ONE OF THE MOST PRESSING ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES OF OUR TIME!

I have been fascinated by the weather since I was a very young child. I proudly served for four years in the United State Air Force as a weather specialist and forecaster, leaving active duty in 1982 to join a fledgling experiment, The Weather Channel, in its first months of existence. After serving as a Senior Meteorologist and On-Camera Meteorologist at TWC for several years, I took a job as a meteorologist and environmental science reporter at the ABC affiliate television station in Milwaukee. It was there, in 1987, that I began actively studying the issue of global warming, and where I interviewed Senator Al Gore during his first presidential bid in 1988. During my many years as Chief Meteorologist and Environmental Reporter at WJBK-FOX2 here in Detroit, I continued to follow and report upon the scientific evolution and public perception of global warming. I was among a group of about 100 weathercasters invited to a White House summit in 1997, focusing on the latest in climate science. I also won two Michigan Emmys for my weather reporting and one for weather anchoring.

Though still working part-time for FOX2 in Detroit, I have been a full-time weather educator, as the weatherWhysguy, since December 2004.

I have enjoyed researching, arguing, and debating about public policy issues for over thirty years. I was a national and state champion debater and speaker in high school, and I went on to teach and coach debate and speech to high school students while I was in college. I coached teams to state and national championships and served as a faculty member at Georgetown University’s summer debate institute for four years. My love of argument led me to a career in trial law. After I graduated from Harvard Law School with honors in 1987, I became a litigation attorney for a large corporate law firm in Detroit. I argued before a variety of trial and appellate courts, Including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Although I left the practice of law several years ago, I have since become active as a speaker, author, and columnist on issues relating to one of my other passions: sound parenting. While I have no expertise in the area of weather or climate, my experience as a trial attorney, debate instructor, and interested citizen has made me an energetic and well-informed skeptic on the subject of climate change.
